Knowledge Day in 3rd year – more participants, higher quality, greater value!

This year´s WIGeoGIS Knowledge Day was held in Munich on 18th June 2009. The event celebrated the automation of processes and new developments in internetbased solutions.

Around 60 participants attended the function at the Hotel Le Meridien. In his keynote address, Georg Magenschab, WIGeoGIS Managing Director, demonstrated how geomarketing has taken off in recent decades and what the future holds. He highlighted the fact that map-based applications will become part and parcel of all corporate activities and business processes, particularly in conjunction with other business intelligence systems.

Return on Investment – Can it be measured for geomarketing?
In his presentation on the measurability of business benefits accruing from geomarketing systems, WIGeoGIS consultant Uwe Hain ran through the theoretical approaches to
qualitative and quantitative measurability as well as pragmatic approaches for assisting users to market themselves and their work better within their own organisations. This topic,
which initiated fervent discussions throughout the day, was constantly revisited in subsequent customer presentations.

Thrilling customer reports
The topic of media planning and the various deployment options for geo-based applications was presented convincingly by Mr Sebastian Mitter, Marketing Manager at prospega GmbH and also known for his role as the moderator of the XING geomarketing group. In particular, the innovative integration of GIS into advertising distribution quality management and response measurement constitute new approaches displaying a pioneering quality for the industry.

Following the midday meal sponsored by the firm Tele Atlas, Mr Carsten Mainz, a site planner for Intersport, enlivened the audience with an energetic presentation about their use of Standardwizard. He demonstrated how it can be used to tackle complex spatial dilemmas to cut costs and prepare challenging planning sessions with franchisees, while adding value for one's own company and its partners. This insightful field report on webbased geomarketing proved to be an excellent introduction to the closing presentation of this year's event.ailable from WIGeoGIS.
